I love a snow day more than probably even you do, but this is our third one and it is seriously reeking havoc on our ability to get stuff done.
I am not requiring anyone to do anything, but, four things:
- I'll be online tomorrow from 11:15 to 12:05 in case anyone wants to talk to me about their topic or their research. We can even research your topic together.
- I've created an optional discussion board post. You are not required to post, a snow day cancelation is still a cancelation, but I want to try to get you to keep up with the work that is due in a week. You can click on this link to our class discussion board to read about the assignment. it's an extra credit post that will earn you one free absence or one free reading journal--and a good number of you could use either or both at this point.
- Look for an email from me with the cover letter to your Positioning Yourself as a Researcher paper. I would have passed them all back tomorrow. You'll get the actual physical copy back when next I see you, but the cover letter should give you some information that will help you with locating and evaluating sources.
- Finally, I am still collecting the reading journal that was due in class on Friday, February 18th. Some folks gave it to me on Wednesday. Don't freak out if you didn't. give it to me on Monday (hopefully we'll see each other then). Don't need to email it to me either. And, while I'm at it, if you have any reading journals that you have not yet passed in in hard copy, BRING THEM TO CLASS ON MONDAY. I'LL COLLECT THEM AND YOU'LL GET CREDIT FOR THEM. This is the last chance to do this.

Week Eleven
For those folks not in class on Monday, I’m updating the syllabus to reflect the fact that so few folks had any interviews done as of Monday’s class (some did, but not many). I don’t want for folks to fall behind with this work, which, I know, is hard. It is real labor to locate interviews and to conduct interviews. I am not changing the requirements of the assignment, but I’m extending the deadlines for the project. In class on Monday, I had all students who had not yet located or conducted interviews to set up times/dates to make this happen. If you have not yet determined who you are going to interview, get that done. And if you have interviewees who are flaking on you, then find alternates now. People not coming through for you will not be an excuse for not turning in this work.
Remember that all of the details for what to do for this project are located online on our class website on the Locating and Evaluating Sources Part II page.
Most of all, don’t skip class. When you skip class you miss important information and actual, like, lessons, that are meant to help you complete this project.
See you all Wednesday.
Remember that all of the details for what to do for this project are located online on our class website on the Locating and Evaluating Sources Part II page.
- FOR WEDNESDAY: Come to class with at least one, but preferably ALL of your summaries of your interviews. On Wednesday, we will work on analyzing, different from summarizing, your interviews. This should help you write your analysis. That is why it is best if you have all of your interviews or at least two to compare. Bring your laptop and be prepared to share your summaries with your research partners. I will be checking to see if you have your summaries with you to give you credit for the work (remember that for this assignment showing up with the work when it is due is part of how you earn at least the B grade).
- FOR FRIDAY: Come to class with a draft of your analysis. We will do a workshop in class to make sure it is in good shape. At this point, if you don’t have all of your interviews completed, it will be hard for you to do the workshop. I will be checking to see if you have your summaries with you to give you credit for the work (remember that for this assignment showing up with the work when it is due is part of how you earn at least the B grade).
- DUE BY FRIDAY: Since midterm, you’ve had four reading journals due. Check the syllabus for details of what was due when. If you have yet to turn in these reading journals, you have until Friday to get them to me. If you don’t turn them in by Friday, you forfeit the right to revise them if they are not “acceptable” reading journals by the terms of the assignment.
- NOT DUE ON FRIDAY: You do not have to do the reading and reading journal listed on the syllabus for Friday 1 April 2022. That is not an April Fools joke. We will be having the workshop for the analysis for the Locating and Evaluating Part II that day. I will move that reading to a later date.
- DUE ON MONDAY: The complete Locating & Evaluating Sources Part II assignment. This includes all drafts from all workshops plus revisions and any reflection work I ask you to do in-class.
Most of all, don’t skip class. When you skip class you miss important information and actual, like, lessons, that are meant to help you complete this project.
See you all Wednesday.
