For my final project, I would like to do a course sequence. I did a project in the past where I built a syllabus that I LOVED and I would like to use the same idea, but obviously expand on that. I want to create a short story class that would be reading and writing based with a collaborative component. We would look at the elements of narrative through reading short stories and students would write their own short stories. I would like to incorporate workshopping, revision, and collaboration strategies

For my final project, I was going to extend my ethnography. In my ethnography I studied two students in my class as they began writing their first summary. I observed their writing process and the questions they asked. To extend this project, I interviewed them after and asked them a few questions about writing to get a sense of their attitude towards writing. I think I will also use the databases as well as the texts we read to interweave the theories and ideas of scholars in terms of what I observed in my own class. I do not have any definitive answers or conclusions though. It seems more like my observations and reflection on them after thinking about the observations and our readings.

For my final project, I'm choosing the course sequence option. In my ethnography project, students researched an important issue in the 2020 election that was discussed by the presidential candidates. Students were really engaged and excited to share their research, discuss topics, and offer their own solutions to the issues. The success of this activity, prompted me to think about creating a unit centering on social justice. Social justice discussions are incredibly engaging and relevant particularly to my ELL students. With the unit I'm designing, students will be required to read a middle grade book (fiction or non fiction) that depicts a social justice issue. From there, they will construct a research paper, participate in actions steps they design and eventually present on their topic.
