OVERVIEW
Each week there is reading due, you are responsible for a 250-300 word response posted to our Class Discussion Board.  You should expect to share these responses with me and with your colleagues weekly. They will be active documents in our class. It's important that you read the discussion board prompt before responding. Each prompt will ask you for specific information from the reading to be included in your post. 

DETAILS
  • Always post within 15 minutes of class time when we are meeting synchronously. Always post by midnight on the day class meets asynchronously. Keep in mind that some posts will require that you read and respond to your colleagues and that that must also be completed by that midnight deadline.  
  • ALWAYS READ THE PROMPT INCLUDED IN THE DISCUSSION BOARD PROMPT SET UP FOR THAT WEEK. Sometimes I will ask for something that looks like a straightforward summary. Sometimes I will ask you to apply the reading to the project you are working on. Sometimes I will ask you to do a version of the exercises posted in our textbook. 
  • In your 250-300 words, responses should, no matter what else I ask you to do, make me know that you've actually read the material required of you. 
  • When it is useful to, you can quote judiciously, but, given the 250-300 word count, "judicious" is the word of the day. 

EVALUATION
The Reading Responses collectively are worth 20% of your final grade in this class. 

In order to earn a B for that 20% you must:
  • Turn in all but two of the assigned Reading Responses that earn an "acceptable."
  • You can revise any Responses that don't earn an "acceptable" as many times as you want until you earn an "acceptable."
  • You must turn in something--even if it is a sketchy and incomplete few sentences--on the day that the Reading Response is due in order to earn the right to revise. 

What an "acceptable" reading response looks like:
  • It follows the format described above 
  • It is turned in on time
  • When appropriate, it speaks to the question or scenario posed to you in the discussion board prompt for that week's reading responses.
  • It demonstrates that you have read the material assigned (rather than skimming or reading the beginning or end of the assigned text. 

In order to earn an A for your 20% you must:  Do all of the things required for a B grade for all but one of the assigned Reading Responses.

In order to earn a C for your 20% you must:  Do all of the things required for a B grade for all but three of the assigned Reading Responses.
