Who are writing for?
  • Katya, et al. Kid’s parents. Bridgewater kid’s parents (because the kids use the library. Because the library offers a lot of services for kids).
  • Steven: Bridgewater residents and area around it?
  • Nicoletta: If we focus on the events rather than the library itself, those folks might come.
  • Kristen & Nicoletta: People with some sort of disposable income?
  • Kristen McKay, Kate Pallis: People aren’t going to libraries because they are getting cheap books. They go because they value libraries.

What are we trying to get them to do? (According to Torda, who seriously put her foot down on this one)
  • We want people to pledge support for the library by becoming a friend of the library. By becoming a member.
  • They want to raise money.

And how are we going to do it?
  • Nicoletta: Membership isn’t the best idea. Events over membership.
  • Torda: People don’t know what the library does and they don’t know how it gets paid for and they don’t know what will happen if the library goes away. We need to tell  them what the library does for them, and get them to care enough about it to be  a supporter of it.
  • Jason: Get them in to the library
  • Kate: Get them to think about how they use the library (and perhaps what they might want to use it for if they some of the services existed).
  • Luiza: Make them aware of the things the library does for them.
  • Katya, Kate: We want libraries, even if we don’t use them.

Questions we want answers to? (As Luiza pointed out, much of this information in on the web site for the library itself--more is probably on the Friends site/facebook page)
  1. What is the current budget of the library?
  2. How does the friends money get spent?
  3. Is the Bridgewater library the only game in town?
  4. How many people, yearly, use the library, and what is their demographic?
  5. Do people know that you can get books from other libraries?
  6. Do people know how libraries are funded?
  7. Do people know how long books come from other libraries?
  8. Do people know what services the library offers?
  9. What role does it play in community?
  10. Who are the people who decide to be members?
