My name is Harris Su. I am a junior at the Ohio State university. I major in economics and I also take two econ courses for the winter. My favorite thing about my college is we have one of the best football teams in the nation and we have the best band in the land! I am more like a sport person who likes to watch and play sports. This is my 7th year in the United States. I went to full four year high school in America and this is my third year at college. I had my first year in California which is near the LA area and then move to Minnesota for the rest of my high school career. Minnesota has been my America home town, while I am writing this paper, I just drove 13 hours back to Minnesota to visit my host family. I had a great relationship with them. After high school, I went to the Ohio State university, OSU has always been my dream school since I was little. I don’t have any siblings so my cousins are kind of my siblings. My closest cousin went to OSU for college and medical school and I visit OSU campus when I was 8. After many years, I still like OSU very much, I like the football team, the culture and people here at OSU so when I get my offer from OSU, I didn’t think for a second and commit right away to OSU. That’s something about me at America.

I am Hanting Lu, English name is Violet and use pronouns she/her/hers. I am an international sophomore at the Ohio State University and live in Columbus now. My major is economics and marketing, at Fisher College of Business. In fact, I am very good at selling things to others, and like one-to-one customized marketing. When I was in the third year of high school, I made a poster for myself and sold myself to many middle and high school students to be their English teacher to make money. I am a part-time Tik-Tok influencer, and more than 120,000 fans follow me. I used to love dancing Jazz, K-pop or something like those, but now I push myself more focus on study to maintain high GPA. I also have many friends, and my roommates and I have a very good relationship. The rest of the time I will choose to go to the gym for a run, listen to music, and watch TV series. I prefer to be alone and spend time to enrich my life. I usually get up at 8 in the morning, listen to music to prepare breakfast for myself, eat breakfast while watching a drama, study for a while after eating, then go to the cafeteria for lunch, and then go to class. Dinner is usually eaten with friends, and then maybe we will chat together at night, play games, or play table tennis or badminton together. This kind of life makes me feel very comfortable. This is who I am now.

I’m George Ni, a sophomore studied in Kenyon College. I’m glad to meet you and improve my English writing skill through this course. For my academic plan, I’m going to major in Biology next year because I’m fascinated in studying the interactions between molecules and how they function to support daily lives of different organisms. Writing skill is an important part for Biology study since it’s used in many areas, such as lab report and Biology journal. Most biologists are good at telling a story about what they found and why should people care about the findings. Sometimes, the way to convey information is more important than skills in lab. That’s the reason why I think taking the course can really help me a lot in my academic journey. Moreover, I like to play video games and watching e-sports during my free time. In many people’s viewpoint, video games are only for entertainment. However, I really enjoy the wise of using strategy and teamwork cooperation in video games. It can also promote the friendship when I played with my friends. When I watched the e-sports show, I can feel the excitement and energy in the game. When players persist and cooperate to achieve the same goal, the spirit indeed inspires me. It reminds me that one should always work hard and contribute one’s all to the team to win the game. Even if I don’t play in such a big stage, the e-sports spirit encourages me to work hard in the real life.

My name is Jialu Tan and I am currently a sophomore at The Ohio State University. My majors are Strategic Communication and Economics. I am 18 years old now, and I was born in Hunan Province, China. When I was in tenth grade, I first thought about studying abroad. After careful consideration and deeply analysis, I chose the United States. In 2020, I started my international student life which may last 4 years or more. I like spicy food very much, especially the delicacies of my hometown, Hunan. It is welcome for everyone to introduce me to any delicious food in the United States. In my free time, I like to hang out and travel with friends. I have been to many cities in the first semester in the United States. My favorite movie is The Lord of the Rings. I think the plot and character setting of this movie are really ingenious. In high school, I liked yoga very much, especially hatha yoga. I will spend at least 3 hours a week contacting it. There is an idol group that I have liked for 7 years. Their name is EXO, which is a KPOP male idol group from South Korea. After I graduate, I want to work in advertising or marketing. I hope that the knowledge I learn in school will enable me to achieve my career goals. I am very happy to have this class with everyone. I hope you can take care of yourselves during the epidemic.

My name is Lee Torda, and I am an Associate Professor of English at Bridgewater State University where I also coordinate the first year writing program. This year is my 21st year teaching at Bridgewater. As a teacher of writing, I want to create writing classrooms that are fair and useful to students, a place where they can find their voice and learn to be brave, fearless writers. I really love my job and feel lucky to do it. When I’m not teaching, I live in New Bedford Massachusetts in a big, old house with my husband and our three very old cats. I like to run and hike and walk by the ocean–which is only a mile from my house–and, of course I also like to read. My favorite books include To the Lighthouse, Invisible Man, and Beloved. But really I have too many favorites to list. I’m originally from Cleveland, OH from a a very big, Italian family. My sister, who I am very close to, still lives there, and I visit as often as I can to see her and my two great, funny ridiculous nephews (which has not been possible during Covid). I feel very lucky to live the life I have, and I look forward to each new class as an opportunity to learn with and from my students.
